Try as I may, I can never seem to post the month I am writing about before that month is over! Oh well, December First is close enough!
Our little baby girl is 6 MONTHS old, already!! I don't know how this happened. I swear, she was a little baby who couldn't do anything on her own and BAM! Now she is sitting up, entertaining herself and looking to eat "real" food. =) I am truly amazed with how fast she is growing!
We put up our Christmas tree and Emerald adores the lights and all the sparkly things that come with Christmas. Sam and I are excited to start our own traditions with our little family.
Sam started his job at the IRS a few weeks back and everything is going well. He is now working on being promoted in the Army, which will be good for his future profession, so I know he is excited about that.
We are both in school full time and I JUST finished a 10 page paper. I know all college students have to write papers and I know that there are lots of other moms out there who go to school, raise a baby AND work. So I have to think that I don't have it all that bad. I think I would be more motivated if the school was for a purpose other than the check we get that pays me to go. I am researching different Doula training organizations and I think I found the one I am going to go with. There is a seminar to start the training in July, which works out perfect for us because Emerald will be able to be apart from me for more than a few hours for the training.
I am excited about the prospect of this and feel that I am finally on my way to doing something I hope I will love.
We had a good Thanksgiving and most of all I am thankful that Sam is able to be home with us. Although, I can't say I am not a little worried the Army is not going to send him back over as they are sending 30,000 more troops out. All we can do is pray!
I can't believe that Christmas is only 25 days away! Hope everyone is having fun getting into the holiday spirit!

October post...a little late...

I am trying to do at least one post a month, but this month~especially the last 2 weeks have been CRAZY!!!
Anyway...our little punkin is now 5 months old! Where did the time go? She definitely wants to move around and scoots her little body all around her play mat...we will see when she decides to attempt crawling. She is attempting to sit up and is doing well, but still needs support to sit up for more than a few seconds.
We are now on week 3 of our cloth diapering adventure. So far, so good. The Bum Genius cloth dipes really are great and I am glad we decided to go with them. We are still doing the disposables at night, but will eventually switch over to 100% cloth when we run out. The diaper sprayer we connected to a toilet is a "must" in my opinion if you are are going to venture into this world. But we are having fun and Sam doesn't even mind them either.
I got a Moby wrap after having so many people suggest it and then suggesting it myself without ever owning one. I LOVE it!!! It is very nice to have the two shoulder support that the sling lacks to perform in. I found a camo colored one online and told Sam I was going to get it for him for our NEXT baby. =) (I have to put those messages in his mind b/c he says we are only going to have one!)

We didn't go trick or treating with the crew (Cauthen's and Stroud's) because Emerald was feeling "under the weather." I loaded up on herbs and essential oils and gave her the ones she could take and she is feeling LOTS better. It's no fun when your baby doesn't feel good, so I hope that the rest of this "sick season" we can keep the yuckiness at bay and continue to do preventative care.

Onto to other news...school is going pretty well. I have found it difficult to tend to Emerald and get everything done. I have had my sister come stay a few times just so I can do my schoolwork undisturbed. It will help when Sam is home every night and we can "take turns" as he is in school full time right now too.
Speaking of Sam coming home...this is his LAST week of paralegal school!!!! HURRAY!!! We only have 3 more nights apart and then NO MORE!!! We survived. The first few weeks were not fun, but it really started to go by fast after that. I am just glad it is over for now.

That about sums up our news for now!! Looking forward to the holiday season!

What's in a name?

Time for a new post!!!
It is September 8th already! I can't believe it! Where did the summer go??
Things have been going well. Emerald is now 3 months old! She is holding her head up very well and has even rolled over about a dozen times. She does not like tummy time, so while it is necessary, I try not to torture her with it for too long. Sam and I are just having so much fun with her and it is so exciting to be a parent and to watch them learn and grow. It's great to see her so amazed and in awe of the littlest things.

We had Emerald dedicated at our church the day she turned 3 months, August 30th. Being a parent is such a daunting task, something we could never do "correctly" without the Lord's help. Hopefully and prayerfully she will be all that she is meant to me and we will be the kind of parents that will encourage her on the right path.

One of the most popular questions we get is, "So what is her name...really?" We don't mind answering it at all, since we DID make it a little confusing. We called her "Emma" most of my pregnancy, but we decided that her name will be Emerald. We also thought we might nickname her, "Emma" but we decided against that too. So Emerald it is. =) I love her name, of course we gave it to her, but I wasn't 100% about it at first. Now, it just seems like that is her name and she grows into it more everyday. PLUS, she has red hair so an "emerald" color will look great on her! =)

Well, Sam is starting his third week in paralegal school at Fort Jackson. I can admittedly say I really hate sleeping alone at night. Granted, I do have Emerald and I am very thankful for that, but you know what I mean. All those years I lived on my own, there wasn't really any fear of being by myself at night, but now I don't know, it just bothers me. I try to stay busy and luckily I am tired enough that usually I'll just go to sleep and TRY not think about the fact that Sam is not next to me. But if you think about it and want to say a prayer for me when you go to bed, I'm sure it could help me with my fear. =)

I started my online classes and while they seem easy enough, it seems like sometimes it's just a bunch of busy work. Some of it is very interesting...I really like Art Appreciation and although I don't know how I'll use that in life, it's fun to learn interesting facts about Art. =) I don't know that I will use these classes for much since what I really want to do doesn't involve these things, but you never know what is down the road and I think it's good for me to discipline myself to learn a little.

That's about all the "new" stuff going on in our lives...until next time...

Becoming a parent...

1:01 PM Edit This 4 Comments »

Time to update! Things have been going really well with our little pumpkin. She is 2 months old now and getting sweeter everyday! Sam and I can't get enough of her and I am very thankful that we have enjoyed our parenting experience thus far. I am already back to wanting 4 kids, but we will see where life takes us. =)
I've noticed since becoming a mommy that one of the first questions people ask is, "how does she sleep?" It's so interesting to me that it is such an important topic among parents!! Emerald sleeps very well once we get her down at night. She fights sleep at night, but we have learned various techniques to help soothe her into sleepydom. One important one is rocking and nursing her to sleep, which means we usually have to be home during that "fussy time." Multiple times this week we were out too late and she was not much of a happy camper. Sam finds that we are losing our independence, but I assured him it is not all lost and we just have to sacrifice a short amount of time...being a parent really does change your life! But the responsibility is a gift and I believe a test from God as how we are going to steward the gift He has given us. I am currently reading, The No Cry Sleep Solution. And hoping to find some good tips in there.

Another thing about becoming a parent would be the fact that we gave up our MINI Copper for a Mini Van. What?? Although we don't NEED a mini van with only having one child, I have to admit it is nice to have the extra room for the stroller and groceries and the like. Sam's main goal in getting rid of the MINI was to eliminate the car payment and have something more practical. So while I miss the MINI and it reminds me of my "free-spirited" days, I just look at my baby and realize I got something much better in exchange. =)

Onto other news...My sister Katie and I are going to try to embark on a road trip up to Michigan to see our older sis, Jen and her family. We are still trying to find out if Katie can get the time off of work, but I am excited and a little nervous of the prospect of taking a 2 month old and a toddler (my nephew is 3) on a 13 hour road trip! If we do go, we will be stopping half way over night because Lord knows our little ones won't last that long in their car seats!!! Are we crazy?? Maybe! We will most likely leave on the 20th and stay a week because....

Sam leaves for Army training on the the 21st of August for 10 weeks. :( He is going to paralegal school and we are hoping it will open up doors for him, once he is finished, to get a full time job at the Army unit in Charlotte. We are going to miss him so much! He will be able to come home on the weekends because he will be in Fort Jackson, SC-about a 3 hour drive~that is the silver lining to the madness.

On the 31st I start school full-time online. Woohoo!!! Alright, I am not excited at all about it, but Sam feels I need to enrich my life by going to school. What fun! I'm sure it will keep me busy while he is gone and hopefully it is easy and interesting enough. We will see. I might actually enjoy it.

Can't believe summer is almost over. Hope everyone has had a great one!

I'm sure I will add more as I come upon them. I can't get enough info about this stuff!

Things have been going well with our little princess. She has been having regular fussy times every night, but tonight-there was NO fussy time!!! HURRAY! I think that it is contributed to the fact that she slept all day and got the rest she needed. Days and nights that we are out and about a lot, I think it is harder for her to adjust to her sleep time at night. I know this is just a lucky night of no crying and there will be many more fussy nights, but it does make a mommy thankful when she can get some stuff done and she has a happy, sleeping baby.

Emerald Myrah Abigail Collin's birth story...

Emerald Myrah Abigail Collins Birth story

Wednesday, May 27 was Emerald’s due date. That day I felt very crampy and I knew my baby was preparing to enter the world, but I wasn’t sure how far off that was. On Thursday I had an appt. with the doulas and told them all the fun stuff that was going on. They checked her position and said she was right where she was suppose to be. Then they checked me and said that my cervix was a lot thinner and that I was at about 2 cm. Which every pregnant woman knows that 2 cm really isn’t all that much and I could have stayed there for a while. But with all the other action I had explained they said I could easily call them that night in labor.

Sam and I went about our day, we visited our friend B and her new baby, Reagan. All day I felt very crampy and uncomfortable, but I was trying to distract myself. Later B told me when I was there it was like I was in another world. Looking back, I can say I felt like I was preparing to GO to another world. That’s what Labor is I think, like an alternate universe or something. =)

We got home eventually and ate sandwiches for dinner. I wasn’t feeling hungry at all, but I knew I had to eat if the labor was progressing. At about 8:30 we started timing contractions on the lovely app on my iPhone called Contraction Master. Ladies, it was amazing and made our jobs a lot easier! My contractions were between 10-15 mins apart lasting 30-45 seconds with a few sneaking in that were 7 mins apart. I called Meliea, one of our doulas, and told her what was going on. She told me to take a bath and try to get some sleep while I could. So, after cleaning a bit and trying to make sure things were together I showered and Sam and I went to bed. I wish I could say I got great sleep that night, but I couldn’t sleep at all! The doulas told me to be on my left side while sleeping because it helps keep the baby in the right position and helps to prevent back labor. At the time I was feeling contractions in my back too, which is the worst thing to have while laboring. I always sleep on my right side, so sleeping on my left side was not working. I tried the heating pad on my back and while it helped, I was still feeling the contractions getting more intense. I DID get about an hour sleep twice that night, but that was it.

I talked to Meliea again at about 9:00 am and told her that my contractions were about the same and she said she was going to call Amy, our midwife, and see if there as something I could do to speed up the process and get the contractions coming closer together. After talking to Amy, Bethany, our other doula, came and brought me some Blue Cohash. Blue Cohash is an herbal elixir that helps bring contractions stronger, kinda like Castor Oil without the nasty side effects. I took that every 10 mins for two hours. (During this time I decided to make cookies for the “birthing crew” so they would have a snack while I was in labor. =) After doing that and not having much of a change in my contractions, Sam and I drove to the park down the road and walked for about 30 minutes. We might have been able to walk longer, but it was SO hot!

The time between the walk and what happened next is blurry. I know at about 6:00 Sam talked me into going to Michaels to pick something up (Crazy, right??!!) and if I had a contraction I would pretend to be intently interested in some random product on the shelf and squeeze Sam’s hand until it was over. Then we went through the drive through at Chick Fil A and I got a chicken wrap. Again, I didn’t feel hungry, but I knew I would need the nourishment to give me strength.

When we got home, after I ate things started to get a little more intense. We filled the birthing pool up and called Meliea at about 8:00. Bethany was there by 8:30 and I am guessing they checked me at about 9:00. I was at 4 cm. So they told me to stay out of the pool and change my position frequently to speed things up. Sam and I went for a walk again, just by the house, and I think that definitely kicked things into a higher gear. When we got back to the house the details get blurry. I started to transition not to long after that when the contractions got so strong I had to “moan and groan” or pray really hard. I cannot tell you how many times I said, “God, please help me.” And I tell you what, He must have because I could not have done it without the strength He gave me. At this point I had been up for a long time and my body was so tired. I had back labor the entire time and in between contractions Sam used this ball roller devise which was just two tennis balls tied in a sock that worked wonders on my back or if not that, applied the warm rice sack to ease the pain.

My contractions were coming probably at least 3 minutes apart and lasting about a minute and a half. Amy was on her way, but before she got there I think I threw up about 3 times, which is another sign of transition. It sounds terrible, but it made me feel better to throw up, it was like a release. After that I had several long, hard, strong contractions were I was groaning very loudly. I had read in the birthing books that your body takes over and it’s almost like animal instincts overtake you. That is how it was for me, I just did what my body wanted to do without even thinking. The moaning and groaning was a release to expel the intensity of the “rushes”
(Contractions). Meliea told me I could get in the pool and Amy would be there soon. I guess Amy arrived at 1:00 in the morning and after that point I lost ALL sense of time. I was 8.5 cm when she checked me and I thought it would be over in an hour. I got out of the pool at some point and needed to move around.

I know that in my hard labor stage, I was moving all around and changing my position all the time. I was on my hand and knees and then I would get up and lean on the couch I would stand up and Amy would say, “Where are you going?” and I would say, “I don’t know!” They were following me all around with tarps underneath me in case my water broke.

I have no idea at what point Amy told me I could push when it felt right. I know I was out of the pool and had a few pushes and then went into the pool. I was SO exhausted. I know the last few hours I labored I didn’t really open my eyes. I know I squeezed a lot of hands very tight and even bite down on Sam’s hand a few times. Sam got in the pool with me, clothes and all, and literally kept me a float. He was holding me up and through it all there is no way I would have been able to get through this without him. He truly was amazing and I am so thankful that I have such a supportive husband. Sharing this experience with him is indescribable.

I remember pushing and pushing and pushing. Resting between pushes was vital for me. I know Amy, Bethany and Melia kept telling me to, “bear down and push your baby out.” I could feel her coming, but I didn’t know which push would do it. I changed my position in the pool several times. Eventually, Amy said, “if you don’t push this baby out in the next 2 pushes we are going to get you out of the pool because this baby might want to be born on dry land.” At this point I was squatting low in the pool and Sam was holding me up. I guess she knew how close I was because in the next two pushes our amazing, sweet, precious baby girl was finally in our arms. It was so unreal. The first thing I thought when I saw her is, “She looks just like her daddy and she has so much hair!!

Sam was crying and I was just holding our baby so tight against me, in awe of her and the whole event. Bethany got some really great shots of Emerald’s first moments in the world with her mommy and daddy. I held her tight against me for I would guess at least 15-20 minutes until her cord stopped pulsating and Sam cut it. They don’t cut the cord right away so the baby can get all the nutrients it can from her mother. We rubbed the vernix into her skin because it is really good for the baby, like an extra protective layer. She nursed a bit while she was in the pool, but it was hard because the cord was so short. Bethany and Meliea were hurrying around getting water out of the pool, so we could lower her a bit because her umbilical cord was only 13 inches so it was tugging on me. After they cut her cord, they cradled her and got her cleaned up a bit. I birthed the placenta and then toweled off and went to nurse her. She nursed like a champ. I was so happy and thankful she was latching on so well. Thankfully, I did not have one tear and did not need one stitch; I think the water really helped with that. They weighed her and measured her and she was a shocking 7 pounds!!! We did not expect that! I was measuring 4 weeks smaller so we thought we would have a little, petite 6-pound baby. Sam was 7lbs 1oz so it makes sense. She was only 18.5 inches long, which also makes sense because I was a little baby.

They gave me all sorts of instructions, which eased my mind. Before everyone left the dishes were done and things were in semi-order. It was so nice to sleep in my own bed. So, SO nice. I don’t think I would have been able to sleep in a hospital bed. We had many visitors that day that were just in awe of how beautiful she is.

In total I was in labor, 32 hours and pushed for an hour and 10 minutes. All, in all having my baby at home was the hardest, most amazing, most empowering thing I have ever done or ever will do. I look back and still can’t believe I did it! I can honestly say there was never a point I wished I was in the hospital. I wished that it was over and I was holding her, but never that I was not at home. I know she is so aware and alert and honestly, besides having her days and nights mixed up right now, she’s perfect. She nurses well and sleeps well and never cries unless she needs to be fed or burped. We are so incredibly thankful for such a sweet little girl! Makes us wonder if we should “roll the dice” again, if we will be so lucky! =)

Amy, Meliea and Bethany were absolutely amazing. I was so impressed with how professional they were. They kept a record of every little thing that happened, they checked mine and Emerald’s vitals regularly, they made sure that they always used sterile gloves and equipment and they even checked the water temperature and added sanitation solution and much, much, more. Without them I could not have done it. They let me squeeze their hands tight, encouraged me and told me many times I could do it. They helped me breath through the hardest contractions and helped me know what to do when I didn’t know up from down. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to birth my baby.

I already feel like a different person. I feel like I have all I need in life now and all the wonderful things that come with being a mother fill me, including joy, worry, love, awe, wonder, appreciation, compassion and so much more.

I welcome all questions about this experience. If you are considering home birth, please, please talk to me and let me tell you all the great benefits and direct you to resources that will help you make the decision. I hope everyone enjoyed reading this. Thank you for all the prayers and support!

Love,
Sam, Heather and Emerald Myrah Abigail Collins E.M.A.

Is she here yet??

So, I guess my baby has decided she does not want to come out yet!!!  I am still one week away from my due date, but it feels like this has been a long time coming! =)
Last week at my appointment, my midwife measured me at 31.5 weeks (aprox) at 38 weeks.  So, my prediction is that she will be small, but maybe also she needs some time to grow.  At this point I am expecting little Emma to be "late" in her appearance to the world, and I have come to accept that, mostly. =)
Needless to say I am very excited to meet her and see exactly how she looks and what color hair she ends up having.  And I am also looking forward to wearing normal clothes, hopefully not far from the time after she is born..we will see.
The next blog will probably be after she is born!!! Crossing my fingers that it will be soon! =)

The baby bump: then and now =)

18 weeks I thought I would post all my "preggo pics" together to show how I have grown.  At 6 months some people at work still didn't know I was pregnant.  I thought it would be fun to see how I "popped"  I am really crossing my fingers I won't get too much bigger though!!! =)

Emma's almost here!

1:14 PM Edit This 1 Comment »

I am here on this beautiful, spring day at Belmont Abby College enjoying the scenery and the birds chirping. I can hardly believe that Emma will be here in around 7 weeks. I am starting to realize how our lives are really going to change. I am not nervous or anxious, I am very excited, but I know this is such a turning point in our life and there is no going back!
We are going to have a home birth. I am so excited and thankful. Sam and I went through so much trial and some hardship going through this journey of finding a midwife, finding a way to pay for a home birth and feeling confident about our decision along the way. I feel much more at ease about the time Emma will enter the world now that this part of the experience is settled. I am actually very excited about the whole thing.
The “Nesting Phase” has served its purpose for sure. =) We have everything we need to start our life with our little girl. I am so thankful for all the help and support from our family and friends. We finally cleared out Emma’s room (the spare was a “storage room” for us) and I feel peaceful and ready for her to arrive. We got a lot of the Pottery Barn Kids set that I wanted and in the next couple of weeks I hope to add all the cute, finishing touches to make her room feel more like a baby girl’s nursery.
I am continually wondering and dreaming what our little Emma will look like. I can’t wait to find out! I imagine her with blue eyes and blond, curly hair; although red hair is a great possibility! However she looks we just pray she is a healthy and happy baby that nurses well and sleeps well at night. =)
This week my older sister from MI, my niece and her friend are all here to stay for the week. That will be very nice too. I am looking forward to spending time with them.
I hope the warm weather stays! I love waking up to sunshine and pretty flowers. Although the heat waves known to an NC summer can wait until after Emma arrives!
I hope to update again at least once before our little bundle makes her grand entrance into the world!

25 Random things about me...

9:36 AM Edit This 3 Comments »
25 Random Things about me
Renee did this a few days ago and I thought about doing it.  Then I saw a few people on facebook do it too and I couldn't resist!!! =)

1. I love to play video games. Once in a while we will bust out the old Super Nintendo and play a little Yoshi and Donkey Kong.

2. I like all vegetables and fruit but I do not like cucumbers.  I think they are watery and seedy.

3. I was a very sheltered child and home schooled from 6th-9th grade with a very short 8th grade stint in "public school." I chose to leave b/c I couldn't handle the reality that kids actually did drugs and were sexually active at that age.  I thought it was a myth. Huge reality check for me that I was not able to handle.   I am not kidding.   I went to the church counselor for several weeks I was so traumatized!

4. The summer between third and fourth grade I read at least three books in the "Anne of Green Gables" series. I used to sit in the tree in our backyard and read for hours.

5. Traveling is something I love to do. I have been to eight countries in my missionary, YWAM years. During one of those trips my team and I had a FIFTEEN hour layover in the Taiwan airport and it was FREEZING!!!  We barely made it out of there without frost bite!

6. I CAN NOT handle scary movies.  Or really any true, sad movies.  If I know it actually happened and it was horrible, I will just read about it, I don't need the visuals.  I have been made fun of all my life b/c of my refusal to watch movies I am not comfortable with. This proves hard to choose a movie between Sam and I, but we deal with it.

7. In my teenage years I was very spontaneous.  One day I decided to allow my very unexperienced friend to cut my long, golden locks. It was a week before prom and I cried for three days it turned out so horribly!!!

8. BEFORE Jurassic Park came out, I wanted to be a paleontologist.  It sounded cool and I thought it would be fun to dig up dinosaur bones.

9. And didn't every girl want to be a marine biologist at some point?? I ditched that dream after 10th grade Advanced Biology. We had to dissect a cat-YUCK!

10. Speaking of school subjects, I am horrible at Math and pretty much despise it.  No one in my family is "mathematically inclined" We are all artistic, "free-thinkers" if you will.  Math is too boxed in for us, I guess. I am OH SO THANKFUL that I have a very smart, Mathematical husband to deal with that sort of stuff.

11. My dad is an artist of an art form called, Marquetry. (Making pictures out of tiny peaces of wood) So I grew up going to art shows and galleries and all that fun "artsy" stuff. I loved every minute of it.  I think it made me a more well-rounded adult.

12. My dream spot to live would be Australia.  It is so beautiful and WARM! Surfing and having a laid back lifestyle sounds good to me! I would live in a beach cottage and have a separate room for art and yoga.

13. When I visited my sister in Alaska one summer it was 32 degrees on the 4th of July!!!  I met some really cool people who were kayaking across Alaska.  Actually, I met a lot of interesting people there.  I had some crazy experiences in my month in Alaska I will never forget!

14. Waiting tables for the pat several years has tested my character like nothing else could.  When you deal with crabby, rude people day in and day out for several years, it is hard to remain kind and not bitter towards "your fellow man."

15. I was on the Bible Quiz team for two years at my church.  We had to memorize whole books of the Bible.  It was def. challenging, but a lot of that wisdom sticks with me today.

16. I am a very strongly opinionated person, but I am not confrontational.  So I have strong opinions about politics and religion and all sorts of things, but rarely voice my opinion b/c I HATE debates. Most of the time this means my hubby or close friends and family hear me vent about why others make me so mad!

17. When I was in high school I was determined to be a "career woman." I wanted to be a successful journalist for TIME magazine, and scoffed at my friends for wanting to get married right out of high school and start a family. Now, I want nothing more than just to be a wife and a stay at home mom with my kiddies.  It's funny how differently we view things as we grow older...

18. I was all set to go to college straight out of high school. But the college I was planning on going to was in CA (Biola University) and they called me in the month of June and told me there was no housing for me. Not being able to afford to live off campus in CA, I decided to "take a semester off" Well, I guess God had different plans for me. Instead I spent a year and a half with Youth with a Mission and it was the best experience of my life.  I have no regrets that I spent that time doing that.  Which in turn gave me a change of heart about my "career path..."

19. Everyone who knows me, knows I LOVE to shop!  This is not a random fact by any means. But I am a HUGE stickler for sales at J.Crew and Banana Republic.  Unless my husband is around to stop me, I can not help myself from entering those stores and buying something. It is hard to keep a level head when cute clothes are involved!

20. I LOVE to be tan!!!  It is this crazy addiction for me. If I can't tan in the tanning bed I am researching all the "self-tanning" products out there.  This has been a challenge since being pregnant, I feel so pasty white!!!!

21. I am not a "shoe girl" I am a purse girl.  I LOVE new purses and I can never have enough.

22. My favorite color changes often. Sam thinks this is crazy!!! It depends on my mood or the season, so if quizzed and asked my favorite color, it is okay if it is wrong, b/c I change my mind a lot about this!

23. I was single for two and a half years before Sam and I met. After my last serious relationship, I spent that time praying and asking the Lord to show me and make it clear who I was meant to marry. I knew within one week that Sam was the man I was going to marry. And a month and a half later we secretly tied the not on Valentine's Day at the court house.  We were in the newspaper and everything and still no one knew!  We later had an actual wedding on St. Patrick's Day and much later told our family and friends we were actually married before!

24. I really like Chai. The best chai ever is "real chai" from India. I am pretty sure though, that the chai I drank there was what gave me a parasite and thus stomach problems since then!

25. If I could do absolutely ANYTHING with my life, I would open a yoga/art/intercession studio with a coffee/tea shop attached.  It would be the fulfillment of my life. I feel like it would encompass all that I am. Maybe someday, God will open the doors for this to come true.

Well there you go!  25 "random" things about me!!!  I thought this would be hard, but once I started I realized I had to pick and choose the things I wanted to say!  If you get a little time some day you should do it!  it's MEGA fun!!!

Being pregnant/choosing names...

11:55 AM Edit This 5 Comments »

Today I am 21 weeks and 2 days.  I definitely feel like I am in that stage where nothing fits, but no one can tell I am pregnant, so basically I just look fat! :p  So, I am hoping the "beloved bump" becomes more apparent in the next coming weeks.

So far this part of pregnancy has been a lot better than the beginning.  The past month or so I have felt a little unusual action in my belly and associ
ated it with the baby.  But on Sunday, she decided to make herself very well known to me and her daddy and she started kicking like crazy!!!  Sam felt it too and I think it really amazed him. It was amazing to me for sure!  She, of course, likes to kick when I am sitting still especially and while I am doing yoga for some reason!  Feeling her and seeing her on the ultrasound has definitely made this experience"more
 real" to me.

Onto name talk...from the beginning we had our boy and girl names picked out.  First names, at least.  I vouched for "Emma" as a girl name.  For some reason, she just "feels" like an "Emma." =)  I have always said I wanted "unique" names for my children and I thought Emma, while not original, was not heard very often.  Then, we find out it was the NUMBER ONE used girl name in 2008!!!! =(  I am still sticking to my guns on the name though.  I can't imagine her as anything else.  I hope when she grows up she will not have to be one of the children in her class that goes by "Emma C." because there are five other "Emma's" in the class...
Sam and I decided that we would give our children two middle names, like daddy, but have yet to decide on two for Emma.

It is so crazy to think that she will be here in just over four months.  I can't wait to meet her!

The day we found out our babies gender...

I am very excited to announce that we are having a little baby girl! (Although all of you who read this already know this wonderful fact)
I can say that all along I "felt" like it was a girl.  I had at least three dreams that we were having a little girl and everyone continued to say they felt like it was a girl too.
I think I would have been very surprised if it had been a boy!

It was a challenge to even find out the gender though!  Our appointment was scheduled on January 12th and of course we were so excited and elated and planned our whole day around the event.  The late morning of the 12th we found out our appointment had to be rescheduled because the ultrasound technician was out sick.  Of course we were sooo disappointed and almost devastated.  We had waited for this day for so long!!! The earliest the ob/gyn could get us in would be Friday, late afternoon.

Seeing how distraught I was, and feeling the same way, Sam called back to see if there was anything we could do to get an earlier appointment or go to another doctor for the ultrasound.  Well, instead of a sympathetic "No" or "I'm so sorry but we can't do that," the woman who does the scheduling laid into him and told him there was nothing they could do and basically we were being selfish for wanting to know our babies gender.  She was very adamant in portraying that they "were not in the business of finding out gender, but cared about the babies health." And OF COURSE we care about our babies health, but what other parent do you know is not SUPER excited to find out the gender of their baby??!!  Needless to say, that conversation just made us more disappointed and upset.

So I suggested looking up places that did the 3D ultrasounds.  We found a few in Charlotte and gave the office a call.  The lady who answered was a sweet, Asian lady who said, "you come right now, we do it for you.." The price was $150 and with that we would get 2D/3D ultrasound and pics and also a 4D (live action) DVD set to music.  Sam thought the price was steep, so being the bargain hunter he is, he negotiated to pay $99.  She told us she had an opening in half an hour, so we jumped in the car and we were on our way.  We were so excited and hoped that this experience could redeem the way the day had turned out.  But we were also nervous and didn't know what to expect...

On the way I told Sam we had to stop for coffee or caffeine of some sort because I was afraid our little one would not be active and we would not be able to see the gender.  So on the way we stopped at a drive-thru Starbucks and I got a yummy, carmel frap.. Mmmmm...it was soooo good!  I have to admit I have missed my coffee since being preggo.

We finally arrive there and walk into this huge building with many offices and take the elevator to "Sunshine Baby." The office was sooo nice!  It was just the Asian lady we had talked to on the phone who was there.  We went into the lobby with lovely couches and pictures of babies everywhere.  We filled out some paper work and then she took us to the ultrasound room, which was beautiful. There was a very large, flat screen television on the wall and then a leather lounge for the mommy to lie on.  There was also a nice couch for daddy to sit too. =)

At first our little one was jumping around like crazy (thanks to the caffeine =) but within minuted the lady said, "looks like a girl!" and I said, "Really???  I knew it, hunny!"  I think Sam was truly surprised because he was convinced we were having a boy.  We both were so excited tho!

All I can say is that the experience was WONDERFUL!  Every couple should do it at least once.  We were there for over an hour and got to see our little one do so many things.  She even appeared to be "blowing kisses" at one point.  I would also suggest going to Sunshine Baby.  The woman was so sweet and kind and she was also hilarious!!!  the comments she made about our little one moving around like, "She is saying she is number one..." and "Ohhh... now she is thinking," made the experience so fun and enjoyable. Needless to say, it made up for the day we had, for sure!

I am actually thankful it ended up this way.  We would have never done this if our appointment hadn't gotten canceled, but I am so glad it did.  There are more pics on facebook. More to come soon...
