A little odd maybe???

Ok, I can tell this story, now that I have told Sam. So the other day while I was driving home from grocery shopping I got pulled over. About 8 months ago, Sam got pulled over at almost the same spot. I should have known, it is a speed trap. The speed limit changes from 45 to 35. So I get clocked going 50. I see the blue lights and the cop motions me to pull into the nearest open parking lot. So, I pull over. He asked for license and registration. I hand them to him. He then tells me to get out of my car and sit in the passenger seat of his car while he writes me a ticket. A bit odd, per say??? I don't quite understand why that happened. He was chatting it up as he wrote me the ticket. I answered his questions politely because he is authority, but I did not "chat it up." I felt very uncomfortable the whole time. I find it odd because they have cameras outside of their vehicles, so if he thought I was going to run, (which come on, do I look like the type that would run???) he would have no worries, he has all my info right there-in his camera...anyway, I thought this was odd. Is this standard procedure??? I am confident I could have gotten out of the ticket, but I didn't really feel comfortable trying to talk my way out of it.

Has this ever happened to anyone else??? Maybe you all are exceptional drivers that never speed. Anyway, I thought this was odd and I was wondering if anyone knows of this happening before....

Maybe you're just baiting me, but I'm going to come out anyway. I really really don't like policemen. They creep me out in general. You can ask Sam about my feelings on that subject because I'm trying to tone it down for public viewing. I don't trust the type of person who would WANT to do that job. That's purely personal opinion.

But yes, that does seem like it's not the standard procedure. If you are worried about someone fleeing or harming you, then you lock them in the back, not the passenger seat. Was it cold outside? Maybe he was being a baby.

I have had the worst experiences with police in that state. I've been arrested (cuffs once and jail the second time) for minor traffic violations. Ask Sam also about "hiding the cat." I haven't had a ticket before or after living there either.

That does seem odd. I know cops will tell some people to get out of their car and sit in the cop's car to get their tickets, but was under the impression it was only for people they thought might be flight risks or if they wanted to search your vehicle. I was pulled over twice in NC and both times was told to stay in my car...and then got warnings. I'm so distrustful of strangers in general that this would really freak me out, so I'm thankful for you that nothing weird happened.

Crazy. I hate cops. I went to school with a room full of people who were studying to be cops and they are the kids who were picked on as children and are trying to get back at the world. I could write a paper on why I hate cops. I've never had one help when I called and never had them help anyone I know.

DEFINITELY more than a little odd... I've had three tickets since I started driving, the most recent was actually last week on our way home from Virginia... but I've NEVER been asked to get out of the car! Of course, I'm not as cute as you are either... I don't blame you for being uncomfortable, that was not appropriate at all.
